Online Petition To Remove Amber Heard From Aquaman Films Hits 1 Million Signatures

An online petition demanding justice for Hollywood star Johnny Depp has gone viral on the internet since Wednesday evening. This comes after he was asked to step down from his much-coveted role of Gellert Grindelwald in the upcoming installment of the Fantastic Beasts series. The actor landed in hot waters after losing his libel trial against The Sun, which saw Depp suing News Group Newspapers and its executive editor Dan Wooton over a 2018 article which referred to him as a wife-beater. His fans are now pushing renowned movie studio, Warner Bros, to reverse their decision and “bring back” Depp to the film franchise. They are also calling for Amber Heard’s removal from Aquaman 2, arguing she was equally responsible for domestic abuse against her former husband.

The petition in question can be accessed on Change.Org. Named “Remove Amber Heard from Aquaman 2,” it has hit the one million signatures in less than a day. Organisers of the petition have stated that Heard should have a similar fate to Depp, while referring to his forced exit from Fantastic Beasts 3. For the unversed, Warner Bros. is in control of both the Wizarding World and DC Extended Universe, so it’s ultimately the same studio heads that can make this decision.

Warner Bros has not commented on cancelling Heard’s contract from the Aquaman franchise yet. However, reports suggest that she is currently taking part in the filming of Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Whether or not, the character of Mera will be taken away from her, only time will tell. For now, Fantastic Beasts 3 is scheduled to hit cinemas on July 15, 2022.

Fantastic Beasts 3: Mads Mikkelson May Replace Johnny Depp And Twitter Is Divided

Depp’s fans are persistent to bring him back to the fantasy series and have started another online petition for the same. Earlier, reports suggested that Hannibal actor Mads Mikkelsen is in talks to replace Depp as Gellert Grindelwald. This led to an outrage amongst the Pirates of the Caribbean star’s supporters. Uploaded on Change.org, the petition is titled, “We want him back! Warner Bros should listen to the public or we will boycott the movie!” It states that the outcome of the libel case was completely unfair. The petition has cross 150,000 signatures. Depp earlier announced that he is planning to appeal the court’s verdict. “My resolve remains strong and I intend to prove that the allegations made against me are false,” he said in a statement.
