Pakistan: Former Accountability Judge Arshad Malik Passes Away After Contracting Covid-19

While everyone is trying to be as positive as they can, the coronavirus pandemic has taken a toll on our mental and emotional health. With cases witnessing a rapid surge in Pakistan, the positivity ratio and number of deaths continues to be on the rise. In unfortunate news, former accountability judge Arshad Malik has passed away in Islamabad after contracting Covid-19, his family members revealed on Friday. The news of Malik’s death was confirmed by his brother-in-law, Waheed Javed, who disclosed that he was in critical condition for the past few days and was on the ventilator. Malik breathed his last at Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad. Condolences for his loved ones and reactions to his demise have been pouring in on social media since today morning.

 

 

 

 

Malik is survived by two sons and two daughters. “Former judge Arshad Malik, who convicted Nawaz Sharif, has died of the corona virus. May he rest in peace. Ameen!” wrote a Twitter user. Another added, “Corona is targeting key figures in Pakistan whose role could have changed the future. My advice to opposition figures, take very good care of yourselves it’s not a joke anymore! #ArshadMalik.” A post mentioned, “May his soul rest in eternal peace,” while another stated, “#RIP. May God give strength to the family.”

Others could not believe how Pakistan has lost multiple renowned figures due to the deadly coronavirus infection. “First Peshawar High Court Chief Justice, then Khadim Rizvi and Now Arshad Malik. My mind is not ready to accept that these are mere coincidences. #ArshadMalik,” penned a user. Echoing the sentiments, another post read, “Waqar Saith. Khadim Rizvi. #ArshadMalik Somewhere something is happening which the public is unaware of.” A similar tweet read, “First Waqar Mulk (Who sentenced Musharraf), then Khadim Rizvi (who said ‘I’ll reveal who asked me to go out for protests’), now #ArshadMalik (Who confessed his judgment against NS was biased due to threats & pressure by “them”), all died from Covid within the last few weeks.”
