Pakistani Dramas: Promising New Shows Premiering in June/July 2021

It seems as though Ramadan only just came to an end and the influx of new shows appeared on our radar only yesterday. But viewers have now settled into those “new” shows, picking and choosing which ones to hold on to and abandoning the rest. While shows like “Pardes” and “Neeli Zinda Hai” are impressing the audience, the overall opinion is that the new lot of shows brought with them an excessive amount of misery. Fortunately, there’s a new spate of drama releases on the radar within the upcoming weeks. Let’s discuss the most promising ones!

Laapata (Hum TV)

Hum Tv is set to pull viewers in with some interesting projects lined up. “Laapata” arrives on the heels of Ayeza Khan’s successful “Chupke Chupke,” so “Laapata” promises to pull in drama audiences. With the brilliant cast of Ayeza Khan, Ali Rehman Khan, Sarah Khan and Gohar Rasheed, “Laapata” has been written and directed by Khizer Idrees. While it’s not 100% clear what the story of “Laapata” will be, two teasers have gone on-air: The first showing a love story between Ali Rehman Khan and Sarah Khan’s characters, the two looking sweet together. The second promo reveals Ayeza Khan’s character, what seems to be another bubbly, fun role for her. Gohar Rasheed’s track has yet to be revealed and the story isn’t clear, but with this team, “Laapata” screams quality. A premiere date has yet to be announced.

Pari Zaad

“Pari Zaad” promises to be a show worth watching. Despite the current buzz surrounding Ahmed Ali Akbar’s “brownface” and the questions arising as to why a dark skinned actor couldn’t have been found, there are a lot of positive aspects that stand out about the show – specifically Ahmed Ali Akbar, a highly talented, underrated actor, getting a central role in such a large show. “Pari Zaad” is based on Hashim Nadeem Khan’s novel of the same name, a piece of work that is loved by all its readers. The show has been directed by Shehzad Kashmiri and boasts of a stellar cast including Ahmed Ali Akbar, Yumna Zaidi, Saboor Aly, Ushna Shah, Urwa Hocane and Nauman Ijaz. The story appears to be about the struggles of a character who is rejected by society for his appearance, though there are different stories being told with multiple cast members. With the OST already on-air, the show is expected to start in the upcoming week or two.

Dour (Har Pal Geo)

After the success of “Qayamat,” Geo has large shoes to fill in terms of ratings. Enter “Dour,” a show promoted as a “story filled with suspense and drama.” Starring Sania Saeed, Afzal Rehman, Ali Abbas and Hina Altaf in lead roles, this story appears to be something different. Written by Saji Gull and directed by Mazhar Moin, the promos of “Dour” show Azfar Rehman performing to his strength – negative roles. Ali Abbas and Hina Altaf play a newly married couple, but trouble enters in the form of a handicapped brother who isn’t what he appears to be. Add Sania Saeed’s character to this, a woman equally manipulative and abusive (and wearing a terrible wig) and this show promises drama and intrigue. The show will begin on Tuesday, June 29th.

ARY also launched Danish Taimoor and Minal Khan starrer “Ishq Hai” last week, four episodes having aired already. These are the three most promising, worthwhile shows expected to begin soon. Which one are you most excited for?
