Pakistani Dramas:  What’s New And Upcoming In April 2024?

Post-Ramadan, there’s a brand new line-up in store for Pakistani drama fans.  What’s releasing, what’s worth watching and when will these shows begin airing?  Let’s take a look at the shows scheduled to begin in another week or so!

Har Pal Geo

Contractors is a five-episode drama which will begin airing on Eid day and continue through the next four days.  Short and sweet, “Contractors” stars Mohammad Ahmed and Shamim Hilaly in lead roles, the casting being the most exciting part of this show.  The duo appear to be contract killers – or are they simply an old, aging couple?  This is a show which will, hopefully, be worth our time!

Iraada stars Affan Waheed along with Saboor Aly and Madiha Imam.  Unfortunately, there isn’t much to write home about here in terms of excitement.  Saboor Aly is playing Affan Waheed’s obsessive cousin who is consumed with the idea of being with him, despite the presence of his significant other, played by Madiha Imam.  We’ve seen Saboor Aly in such roles before and while she plays them well…..will this actually be a good show?  The date has yet to be announced, but it’s “coming soon.”

ARY Digital

Achari Mohabbat is an Eid telefilm written by Saima Akram Chaudhry and starring Shuja Asad and Sohai Ali Abro in lead roles.  Honestly, the promos have set the stage for something exciting and leave us wondering – why does this have to be a telefilm instead of a full-fledged drama?  That’s the only reason for disappointment, otherwise “Achari Mohabbat” looks like something worth waiting for.

Radd was initially supposed to star Syra Yousuf and Shehryar Munawar in lead roles, their pairing leaving audiences excited for the show to begin.  And then……suddenly, Syra had been replaced by Hiba Bukhari.  Hiba Bukhari is a great actress who is a natural on-screen, but the Hiba-Shehryar pairing feels forced and unfortunately, the storyline looks tried and tested despite the attempts at creating an off-beat look.  This one is not too exciting.

Khudsar stars Zubab Rana and Humayoun Ashraf in lead roles, along with Rizwan Ali and Seher Afzal.  Zubab Rana appears to be playing the “khudsar” (self-absorbed, selfish) character who will go out of her way to have her dreams fulfilled, even if it’s at the cost of destroying those around her.  Haven’t we already seen this in “Bharaas”?  Again, this feels like a rehash of many shows we have already seen.  The promos are not terribly exciting, though they’ve been shot well.  Will the show’s content surprise us?

Jaan Se Pyara Juni

Zahid Ahmed is a name synonymous with quality.  He is an actor we are always excited to watch……and yet, “Jaan Se Pyara Juni” arrives with little buzz.  Paired with Hira Mani and Mamya Shajaffar, this appears to be a love triangle in a story written by Aliya Bukhari and directed by Meer Sikandar.  There’s a charm about the way the story is presented in the promos and Zahid Ahmed’s character seems endearing.  This could be a hit in the making!

Sultanat

Stories of kidnapping and aggression are not new to Pakistani dramas.  However, “Sultanat” looks interesting with a fresh cast including Maha Hassan, Humayoun Ashraf, Ahmed Randhawa, Imran Aslam, Saba Faisal and Mohammed Ahmed.  The story is not one-hundred percent clear from the promos, but seems to follow matters of dignity and honor after being kidnapped.

Let’s Try Mohabbat

With only six episodes, “Let’s Try Mohabbat” brings together the fresh pairing of Mawra Hocane and Daniyal Zafar.  These two actors are not only visually easy on the eyes, they are also both great actors.  It will be interesting to see what they bring to the table in this short romance.  This is one to look forward to!

Gentleman is a show each Pakistani drama fan is waiting for with excitement.  Starring Humayun Saeed, Adnan Siddiqui, Zahid Ahmed, Yumna Zaidi and Sohai Ali Abro, the story has been written by Khalil Ur Rehman Qamar and directed by Haissam Hussain.  This is truly a dream team of artists coming together.  Following the underworld in Karachi, “Gentleman” promises to be more than worth our time.  All eyes are on this one!

Dil Many Na

Sania Saeed is an actress worth waiting for, as she does not sign projects too often.  Madiha Imam is an actress we enjoy watching on-screen.  Are the two coming together for a worthwhile project?  Unfortunately, “Dil Many Na” looks as stereotypical as it gets with two sisters, one self-absorbed and the other self-sacrificing.  Is this yet another “bechaari” story or is there more than what meets the eye?  There’s hope for this one.

Of these shows, “Gentleman,” “Contractors,” “Achari Mohabbat” and “Let’s Try Mohabbat” seem the most promising.  Which shows are you most looking forward to?
