Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has extended his heartfelt gratitude to the UAE and Saudi Arabia governments for helping with its foreign reserves at a time when it needed it the most. “If they had not helped us with our reserves, we would have defaulted,” he said, while speaking to Pakistanis residing in Jeddah. “And if we had defaulted, there would have been severe consequences,” he added. PM Khan noted that the Kingdom didn’t only help Pakistan with its foreign reserves but also gave it oil on deferred payments, adding Pakistan will be forever grateful to the aforementioned nations.
“When we came into power, the country’s economic condition was very tough. Our foreign reserves were too low. But I really want to thank Saudi Arabia for helping increase our foreign exchange reserves and offering oil on deferred payments. Similarly, the UAE also helped us. If they had not supported us at that critical time, we would have defaulted. And that would have had severe consequences. Because once a country defaults, it takes quite a lot of time to recover,” Khan said in his statement.

The PM is visiting Saudi Arabia on the invitation of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. He also encouraged the Pakistani ambassador to Saudi Arabia to increase his interaction with Pakistanis living abroad. “I want you to interact with the Pakistani community in Saudi Arabia.
