If you’re a 90’s child, then you will surely remember the roaring laughter from the popular 90s television sitcom, Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. And if you were a fan of the show, then brace yourself because the show is all set to get a reboot! You heard correctly! The series, which is responsible for launching Will Smith’s stellar career in Hollywood has been confirmed for two seasons on the streaming service, Peacock, it has been reported.

The reboot has come about following a fan-made trailer which portrays a more realistic and dramatic version of the characters in a much more modern setting. The fan-made trailer caught the attention of Will Smith back in 2019 who announced the news of the reboot in a video.

In the video, the Men In Black actor can be heard saying “We have just officially closed the deal with Peacock with an unprecedented two-season order from a pitch.” He went on to add, “What really clicked in my mind when I saw the trailer that Morgan did [was] the concepts in the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air reimagined as a drama. A real kid from West Philadelphia modern day, a Black family in Bel-Air, the Carlton character, a Black young Republican … the heat that would be stirred up by these characters.”

Will Smith, who is known for his versatile roles in a number of films including I Am Legend, Hitch and Bad Boys; also said that he wants to see the Hilary Banks character in the world of social media and on Instagram. He wants to see Uncle Phil as a Black judge with young black kids coming before him, and Aunt Viv reentering the workforce after raising her family.

We can’t wait to see what this reboot will be like but sure are excited.
