“Prem Gali” continues to win hearts through its realistic storytelling. Starring Farhan Saeed, Sohai Ali Abro, Saba Hameed, Uzma Hassan, Shamim Hilaly, Qavi Khan Waseem Abbas and others, “Prem Gali” has been written by Faiza Iftikhar and directed by Qasim Ali Mureed. In episode 29, we witnessed Joya coming back home after leaving Hamza as misunderstandings took root in their marriage.
In episode 30, Hamza (Farhan Saeed) is finally filled in on the truth regarding Manzoor (Javed Sheikh) and Joya’s (Sohai Ali Abro) relationship through Fari (Anoushay Abbasi). Relieved that the situation is not as dire as he believed, Hamza is a responsible enough, supportive character who realizes that he made a mistake and needs to make amends with Joya. On the other end, there’s no doubt that Joya is an incredibly immature character, one who is not only unable to express herself openly due to her hangups and fear of being judged for her father and mother’s mistakes, but also a young woman with a large ego who is unable to accept an apology and be sincere in her marriage. There is something oddly unlikable about Joya while she’s surrounded by and has been raised by very much likable women with complex behaviors. Joya is like an overgrown child and her behavior evokes pity for Hamza in having to deal with her tantrums. Still, it’s nice to see that despite Joya’s bad behavior, Hamza is still willing to fight for his marriage and win his wife back. Meanwhile, Joya discovers that Dada Ji (Qavi Khan) was faking the heart attack, but keeps his secret in exchange for supporting her against Hamza. While Joya may not see this entire fight as petty, Hamza realizes how unnecessary this fight is. Will he be able to convince his stubborn wife though?
Luqman’s (Abdullah Farhatullah) interest in Mussarat (Uzma Hassan) persists as he tries his best to convince her to marry him. These scenes are rather endearing , as while Mussarat may seem callous on the outside, she’s simply trying to protect herself from future heartbreak. She has been through a lot due to her first marriage and she has a hard time trusting others. It’s almost as though she has a fear of being happy and considering she has finally found happiness within herself, she is afraid of a man coming in and taking her back several steps. Fortunately, Luqman is dedicated in his love for her and truly wants to be with her, finding humor even in her rejection, enjoying spending time with her regardless. The purity of the relationship between Luqman and Mussarat is what makes it such a sweet one, worthy of rooting for.
There are some beautiful moments in this episode. First, there’s a scene between Shireen (Saba Hameed) and Hamza where Hamza reassures Shireen of his love for Joya, informing her that he knows about Manzoor being Joya’s father while also reassuring her that Joya will always be there for her. The way Saba Hameed has played this role is simply great. She has made Shireen an emotionally complex character who finds it necessary to build a rough exterior, but is soft on the inside, hurt by her past experiences. The credit also goes to Faiza Iftikhar, who has written these characters so well, they feel like family. Of course, Farhan Saeed is fantastic as Hamza, a character who is childish in demeanor, but is wise regarding relationships. Long with these scenes, not only are the scenes between Mussarat and Luqman are wonderful, but the scenes between Haatim (Wasim Abbas) and Luqman are applause-worthy. The way Haatim tries his best to support his brother and guide him through a rough patch is heart-warming and it’s great to see Luqman confiding in his elder brother. Both Abdullah Farhatullah and Wasim Abbas share a beautiful chemistry as siblings (and of course, Qavi Khan), but this episode in particular has some great moments between the duo.

Overall, while “Prem Gali” continues to be a wonderful show with some rock-solid moments that shine in the emotional arena, it’s the Hamza-Joya relationship that has begun to drag. The character of Joya continues to be angry over petty issues and it’s becoming exhausting watching this play out. At this point, we are simply ready to see Hamza and Joya have their happy ending while the show moves on to focus on other aspects of the show, such as Luqman-Mussarat and Manzoor-Shireen.
