Prince Harry, Meghan Markle Sign Podcast Deal: Twitter Users Are Divided

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have signed a deal with streaming service Spotify to produce and host podcasts. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s charity will receive an undisclosed sum from the partnership between their production company, Archewell Audio and Spotify. In the recently dropped trailer, the couple promised “different perspectives” and interviews with “amazing people”. The first podcast, due for release during the Christmas, is being touted as a holiday special. The promo shows Meghan and Harry promoting the deal, with Harry saying, “That’s what this project is all about, to bring forward different perspectives and voices that perhaps you haven’t heard before and find our common ground.”

About the first podcast episode, Meghan said, “We’re talking to some amazing people, they’re going to share their memories that have really helped shape this past year which has been, as we know, a difficult one for everyone.” Echoing her sentiments, Prince Harry added, “So many people have been through so much pain this year, experiencing loss, a huge amount of uncertainty, but it feels worth acknowledging that 2020 has connected us in ways we could have never imagined, through endless acts of compassion and kindness.”

Twitter has been filled with mixed reactions after the news of the podcast took the internet by storm. “Prince Harry and Meghan Markle left the royal family because they sought the same kind of normal, private life regular people enjoy. They longed for the life’s simple and anonymous pleasures, like launching a new heavily publicized podcast and national promotional tour,” wrote a user. Some cannot wait for the podcast. “If you think I’m going to listen to Meghan and Harry’s podcast on Spotify then you’re absolutely right,” a user added.

On the contrary, another wrote, “Harry and Meghan have nothing to say that’s worth listening to.” Weighing in on the recent development, one user mentioned, “Harry and Meghan had no others choice than to build their own platform to directly connect with their public. Especially after the way they’ve been defamed and demonized by the UK press. That Spotify deal is the best way to use their voices and promote their work.” Many mocked the podcast saying, “Why on earth do they think we want to listen to their woke word salad?” Journalist Josh Glancy jokingly added, “Pleased to see Meghan and Harry choosing the same path as so many other lost millennials in search of a creative purpose: if in doubt, start a podcast.”
