Episode 28 of “Pyar Ke Sadqay” is both eventful and not eventful at the same time. The episode focuses on Mehjabeen’s pregnancy news, along with Mansoora and Washma’s relationship and how it has been affected by Sarwar. While the show has been lagging of late, this is an episode that picks up speed and does hold viewer interest.
As episode 28 begins, Shanzay and Abdullah are shopping when Abdullah receives a call from Washma, informing him of Mehjabeen’s pregnancy. Shanzay is cute in this episode and resembled the “old” Shanzay from previous episodes. Yashma Gill performs well and brings a smile to the face. Of course, Shanzay is in her own world and her actions simply do not make sense. Why is Shanzay so fixated on Abdullah at this point? Of course, Abdullah is in a world of his own after discovering Mehjabeen is pregnant and begins imagining being a father. When he visits Mehjabeen in the hospital, her hopes are awoken once again that Abdullah will come back to her, but are shattered once again when he leaves. Abdullah wants to be with Mehjabeen, that much is clear, but he does not have the confidence and courage to make that decision for himself. He feels trapped with Shanzay and is simply going through the motions. Yumna Zaidi and Bilal Abbas Khan perform well and share a great chemistry – but unfortunately, their track has been tainted by Abdullah’s behavior, particularly with Abdullah not believing Mehjabeen about Sarwar’s misbehaving. Is there a way back for these two that will be appealing for viewers? Yumna Zaidi is a scene-stealer and she brings viewers to tears with the lifting and dashing of her hopes. She is a master of expressions.
Srha Asghar has consistently been stealing the show as Washma for the last few weeks. In episode 28, Washma is once again the star. She is the voice of reason, a character that serves as a mouthpiece for viewers and voices our thoughts. Viewers are finally exposed to Washma’s childhood and while it may have initially seemed that Washma was headstrong and left her mother’s home due to rebellion, the picture seems to be much different. Washma was tormented and threatened by Sarwar at a young age and he made her uncomfortable. Washma was no different from Abdullah, but while Abdullah continued to endure the abuse, Washma made a conscious decision to extract herself from that household. This bit of information adds layers to Washma’s character and makes her even more likable. Her scene with Mansoora and Phupo stands out and Srha Asghar performs well as Washma unleashes her anger upon her mother, telling her exactly what she thinks of her “love” for Sarwar, unable to hold back now that Mansoora’s actions are affecting Mehjabeen.
Mansoora’s reasoning for staying with Sarwar comes across as weak. She is essentially caught in a trap of “what will people think?” – but really, why should she care? She’s an educated, well-off woman who could have had whatever life she wished to live with her children. Yes, society is judgmental towards single mothers, but again, she is educated and powerful. She could’ve even chosen to settle outside Pakistan. Somehow the reasoning does not come across as believable, though Mansoora’s vulnerability does. Atiqa Odho’s acting is fabulous and depicts this shell of a woman so well. Mansoora is someone who must have once had stature, but her own insecurities have cut her down to size not only in the eyes of her children, but also in her own eyes. She does not believe she deserves better and, so, she turns a blind eye. Fortunately, she seems to be coming around and understanding the weight of her actions. But is it too late? Is there redemption for Mansoora or has she already destroyed too many lives – including those of her children?
Pyar Ke Sadqay Episode 27: Washma Takes a Stand for Mehjabeen
Gul E Rana and Omair Rana’s chemistry as mother and son lights up the screen and brings out a comedic element to an otherwise serious situation. Sarwar’s mother is not a dim woman and she’s aware that her son is going to fall flat on his face if he continues his pursuit of Mehjabeen. How will Sarwar react when he discovers Mehjabeen is pregnant? What does Sarwar hold over Phupo and are we in for a face-off between the two? With the show in 28 episodes deep, the time has come for these loose ends to begin wrapping up and, hopefully, bring the show to a solid conclusion.
