There are some shows which viewers watch for quality content. There are other shows which viewers watch for thrills. There’s another category of shows that viewers watch simply to see the “perpetrator” punished. And then there’s the category that “Qarar” falls into – a show that has no redeeming quality, a show with very dim, illogical characters that dig their own grave and create their own problems. “Qarar” stars wonderful names like Sanam Jung, Rabab Hashim, Muneeb Butt, Mekaal Zulfiqar and Ali Safina. Written by Aliya Bukhari and directed by Barkat Sidiki, this is a show that should have been a winner, but it has been a constant disappointment.
“Qarar” achieves nothing in terms of entertainment and simply infuriates the audience, leaving the viewer screaming at the “good” characters for creating situations that will only harm them – and then when they are harmed, there is simply zero feelings of empathy or remorse felt for those characters, because they have no one to blame but themselves. In episode 17, now that Maya (Sanam Jung) has married Junaid (Mekaal Zulfiqar), she has now set forth to create havoc in the house. Faria (Rubab Hashim) is a nightmare character, because she knew Maya was a danger to her married life and her friend (Ammar’s cousin) even told her not to allow it to happen. And yet, not only Faria, but Ammar (Muneeb Butt), Naani and Faria’s Mamoon all allowed this catastrophe of a wedding to take place. Now Maya has wrapped Junaid around her finger and though he’s a good guy who knows when to scold Maya for saying the wrong thing, he also doesn’t publicly admonish her and tell her to know her place – which is not to disrespect his grandmother or brother. Due to Maya and Junaid’s plotting as they prepare to sell the house and are overheard discussing methods to keep Ammar’s half of the money (why would Junaid ever agree to this), Naani has a heart attack and winds up in the hospital. While Naani makes a recovery, no thanks to Maya or Junaid, Maya begins to harass Faria and Ammar for half the funds spent on hospital bills. Of course, Faria sells her jewelry to cover the costs.
Qarar Episode 14: A Show With a Fabulous Cast, But Void Of Logic
There is simply nothing to root for here. This is the story up until now and there’s no light in sight. Or is there even anyone to cheer for? Faria continues to lie for Maya, covering for her over simple things like claiming she made the food when Maya did, and for some reason, she believes she’s protecting her family by doing so – instead of realizing that she’s not only poisoning her own husband against her, but she’s also causing direct harm to the other household members. Can one claim Faria isn’t responsible for Naani’s heart attack? Of course she is! Faria knowingly brought Maya into the house as Junaid’s wife, knowing her cousin is a wretched, lying, schemer. She then continued to cover for Maya’s bad behavior, practically destroying her own marriage in the process. What would have happened if Ammar hadn’t overheard Maya and Faria’s conversation? At present, now Maya has forced Naani to sign the house over to Junaid by force, leaving Faria and Ammar out of the equation. Again, what is Junaid thinking? Everyone in this equation is dim or manipulative, except for Naani. “Qarar” is simply a show that could have been good, considering the strong cast, but it has ended up being a disaster. Someone please sign Rubab and Muneeb for another show, as these two actors share great chemistry and deserve a better show!
