“Qayamat” is a highly rated show with some excellent performances by Ahsan Khan, Neelam Munir and Haroon Shahid, though it’s one that manages to sit heavy on the heart with what Amar Khan’s character and her family have had to experience. Starring Ahsan Khan, Neelam Muneer, Amar Khan and Haroon Shahid in lead roles, “Qayamat” has been written by Sarwat Nazeer and directed by Ali Faizan. Last we saw, Rashid and Samra had an argument which lead to tragedy when Samra unexpectedly passed away.
After Samra’s (Amar Khan) death, the family mourns and lays her body to rest in episode 15. However, now the situation arises of what to do with little Sana, Samra and Rashid’s daughter. Rashid (Ahsan Khan) refuses to part with his daughter, though he’s in a state of shock and so Ifrah (Neelam Munir) stays the night to care for her. During her stay, she overhears Rashid and her Chacha (Shabbir Jan) arguing and realizes how much grief Samra endured in the household, telling off not only Rashid and her Chacha, but also Jawad for failing to protect her. Later, the family agrees to send Sana with Ifrah and her parents and return in 6 months with Ifrah when she marries Jawad. While Rashid argues, it’s the right decision, as he’s in a deep state of depression and cannot care for his daughter. Unfortunately for Jawad (Haroon Shahid) and Ifrah, a seed is planted in Jawad’s mother’s mind about getting Ifrah and Rashid married – and this seed takes root.
There’s an uncomfortable shroud of “redemption” being created for Rashid that does not sit well with the viewer. Rashid has been in a state of depression after Samra’s death and is unable to get out of his “funk.” On Jawad’s encouragement, he even visits Samra’s parents and Ifrah to apologize for mistreating their daughter during her lifetime. It’s clear that the guilt is eating him from the inside, which is good to see – however, Ifrah isn’t buying it. She tells Rashid clearly that his regret will not bring her sister back. Seeing Rashid listen to her taunts makes it clear how much he has changed. But does that excuse his crimes? Is it possible for him to be redeemed? Will Ifrah have to sacrifice herself for the sake of her niece, giving Rashid a clean chit for a happy future? Ahsan Khan’s performance is outstanding this week, really getting under the skin of his character and revealing different layers.
Aulaad Episode 10: Nabeel Zuberi and Hassan Niazi Continue To Play Genuinely Terrible Sons
Coming to where the show is headed, Jawad and Ifrah are a happy couple, a couple that supports one another. In Neelam’s last show (Bikhray Moti), we saw a similar scenario where Neelam’s character winds up forgiving her husband and accepting him. While there was space for such an ending on that show, there isn’t space here. It would simply be wrong to manipulate a character in such a way and expect viewers to find this palatable. Ifrah has seen her sister suffer at Rashid’s hands and for Rashid, his mother and father to manipulate the scenario to break up Ifrah and Jawad would not only be selfish, it would be cruel to their own son. The only way this move can be acceptable is if Ifrah enters the household to set everyone straight and ultimately either marries Jawad or branches off to start her own life without them. It will be interesting to see which direction they take this track in.
