“Qayamat” is a show that brings about conflicting emotions. While the story is interesting enough, it’s the presentation that gives it a heavy flair of melodrama, putting the characters in situations that are just too over-the-top, meant to emotionally trigger viewers. Starring Ahsan Khan, Neelam Muneer, Amar Khan and Haroon Shahid in lead roles, “Qayamat” has been written by Sarwat Nazeer and directed by Ali Faizan. After Samra’s death, Ifrah and Rashid now find themselves married, bound together thanks to Samra’s young child.
In episode 19, Ifrah (Neelam Munir) settles into her new life as Rashid’s (Ahsan Khan) wife. But from the moment she steps foot into Rashid’s room, she makes it known that she’s only there for baby Sana and has absolutely zero intentions towards building a life with Rashid. And while initially, Rashid states that he wasn’t for this marriage either, it’s apparent that Rashid is rattled by Ifrah’s disdain and visible dislike for him. This continues through much of the episode as Ifrah rebuffs Rashid at every given opportunity. Ifrah’s demeanor is commendable and, quite honestly, refreshing. Neelam Munir always plays these confident characters well, as we’ve seen previously with “Bikhray Moti,” and this show is no less as she continues to give a stellar performance as Ifrah.
Jawad (Haroon Shahid) and Ifrah now live under one roof, but the two are now living a very different life from what they one envisioned. While Jawad wishes for Ifrah to move on and get settled into her life with Rashid, Ifrah will not let Jawad off the hook so easily and ensures he’s aware of how badly he hurt her – and that she no longer will give him any attention. Jawad is a weak character, to put it simply. While he made tall claims of loving Ifrah and doing anything for her, in the end, he simply chose to sacrifice her after one conversation with his parents. Meanwhile, he continues to support Ifrah’s parents (also terrible parents), his conscience weighing heavy on him. There’s a ridiculous moment where Ifrah’s mother is seen praising Jawad highly over the phone with Ifrah, hoping he finds happiness in his life. Neelam Munir’s acting here is wonderful as Ifrah is seen battling several feelings at once. While she’s happy her parents are being taken care of, she does not want it from Jawad. Jawad is the man who promised her the world – and now her world continues to move on, but without him. One can almost put themselves in Ifrah’s shoes and grapple with those emotions – the idea of her parents and once-fiance spending time together, but erasing her from that part of life.

In the present track, it’s Neelam Munir who holds up the show with her performance. Of course, Ahsan Khan is wonderful too and what’s really great is that Rashid has not been painted as a black and white character – when he’s bad, he’s bad and when he’s good, now he’s good. This is not what’s happening and that’s welcome. Rashid’s friends place the thought into his mind that Jawad and Ifrah’s affair will continue under his roof and now with that thought, Rashid will now begin to suspect Ifrah’s character – something that will take him back to the ways of “old Rashid.” A full transformation is not realistic and so, this is an interesting angle. Still, it remains to be seen if Ifrah and Rashid are end-game for this show or if the show takes a different, unexpected, more acceptable turn at the end. We’ll have to wait and watch!
