Qayamat Episode 21: Ifrah Begins Her Revolt Against Rashid

While “Qayamat” has been a TRP magnet and has a large audience of viewers, it’s also a show that manages to raise one’s blood pressure due to over the top behaviors. Starring Ahsan Khan, Neelam Muneer, Amar Khan and Haroon Shahid in lead roles, “Qayamat” has been written by Sarwat Nazeer and directed by Ali Faizan. After Samra’s death, Ifrah and Rashid were essentially forced to get married, forcing another daughter into the same miserable situation. However, Ifrah is not Samra and she makes that clear through her behavior. This week, she brings a smile to the face of the viewer, finally lightening the mood by refusing to bow down to her evil in-laws.

In episode 21, Jawad (Haroon Shahid) and Rashid (Ahsan Khan) are at loggerheads with Rashid finding himself jealous of Jawad and Ifrah’s (Neelam Munir) relationship. Realizing his presence is creating more problems for everyone in the house, Jawad decides to go back to Canada and remove himself from the situation. But is Jawad really a victim? Jawad could have fought for Ifrah and spoken loud and clear to Rashid about his feelings for Ifrah. Would Rashid have married Ifrah then? Most likely not, especially considering Rashid wasn’t particularly keen on marrying Ifrah himself. So when Jawad meets Ifrah to tell her about leaving, Ifrah, understandably, does not react well. She is heartbroken internally at being abandoned by the man who once claimed to love her – but outwardly, she bristles and calls Jawad a coward, reiterating what viewers are thinking. After making a decision for both their lives, Jawad is now leaving Ifrah to deal with the situation on her own while making his own “escape.” While Jawad’s intentions may not have been negative, he created his terrible situation by not standing up for her and so, Ifrah makes it clear that she does hold him accountable. Jawad leaves Pakistan, leaving Ifrah broken-hearted once again.

With Jawad’s presence no longer an issue, Ifrah swings into overdrive of “revenge mode.” She is no longer willing to sit quiet and endure this family’s tantrums. These moments are humorous for viewers and one almost wants to applaud Ifrah for her outspokenness, speaking so bluntly, she leaves her “victims” in shock. When her mother falls ill and needs bypass surgery, Saad (Haaris Waheed) takes her to the hospital and helps the family through difficult moments – something which rubs Rashid the wrong way. However, Ifrah, once again, doesn’t mince words in making it clear that his issues with Samra’s ex-fiance are not her problem. While one thinks Rashid and his family would have gained some humility after Samra’s death, this is simply not true. While Ifrah is struggling to gather finances to pay for her mother’s bypass surgery, Rashid and her in-laws behave rather flippantly about it with Rashid even stopping her from selling her own jewelry.

What’s terrible about this show is that even after Samra’s death, this family has not learned their lesson and they continue on their path of negativity. What’s great about the present turn of events is that Ifrah is no longer a sitting duck and she’s lashing out openly. This adds humor to a show that has been entirely lacking in that regard until now. Neelam Munir is doing what she does best – the role of a strong woman ready to fight against her oppressors. We’ve seen it before with “Bikhray Moti” and she’s equally as good here as the vocal, feisty Ifrah. The next episode will give Ifrah the upper hand as she has found a file that appears to be property owned by her father – in her Taaya’s possession. While “Qayamat” has been a difficult watch up until now, things have finally taken a turn for the better.
