Ahead of this year’s Aurat March, musician Ali Gul Pir released a rap song, throwing shade at those who encourage patriarchy. Last year, the slogan ‘Mera Jism Meri Marzi’ was at the tip of everyone’s tongues, and this year seems to be no different, with the addition of a few themes including the bias in healthcare against women and sexual minorities, violence against women and minority groups. Titled Tera Jism Meri Marzi, Pir’s song takes a sarcastic dig at men who believe they can exercise power over females and their bodies.
The rapper starts off by thanking misogynists like Khalilur Rehman Qamar, who cannot stand the thought of women marching, let alone living their lives freely. The chorus of the track goes, “Tera Jism, Meri Marzi. Chup aurat achi bolnay waali gandi,” which loosely translates to the fact that women who speak up are bad and those who remain quiet are good.
Eva B, a female rapper makes an appearance, stealing the spotlight in a burqa. As the video progresses, it depicts how a woman who was previously silently suffering domestic abuse, eventually reclaims her rights and position.
