“Raqs E Bismil” is one of the more promising, likable shows on air at present. Telling the story of lovers who cannot be together due to their social backgrounds, Imran Ashraf and Sarah Khan play the lead roles of Musa and Zohra. The show also stars Momin Saqib, Anoushay Abbasi, Mehmood Aslam, Furqan Qureshi, Nida Mumtaz, Javeria Abbasi, Saleem Mairaj, Zara Sheikh and others in prominent roles, has been directed by Wajahat Rauf and written by Hashim Nadeem.
Episode 24 sees Zohra (Sarah Khan) wandering the streets, winding up at a Masjid where she is spotted by Musa’s father (Mehmood Aslam) and his friend after she falls unconscious. Musa (Imran Ashraf) is shown at the same time, praying for Zohra’s happiness and well-being. There’s a thought that one can’t help pointing out here – this is true love. If one compares Musa of “Raqs E Bismil” to Farhad of “Khuda Aur Mohabbat,” Farhad’s love is weak as he gives curses to Mahi after she rejects his love. But on this side, Musa has been rejected by Zohra and yet, he has always only wished the best for her and prayed for her. And it is possibly the result of those prayers that, in an ironic twist of fate, Musa’s father takes Zohra to his home for his family to care for her while she carries out her “Iddat” period. Musa’s mother is quick to recognize her and even apologizes to her for her cold behavior in the past, telling her that her presence in the house makes her feel as though Musa is nearby.
And while this is all and well, Musa’s tedious search for Zohra continues. Na Muraad (Saleem Mairaj) captures Faizi and his wife, proving to be a great friend as always. Na Muraad and his friends make it clear that they’re aware of Faizi’s plotting and demand that Zohra is found and handed over to them immediately or else Faizi and his wife will suffer. While both are scared, they rush out for a search that will only be futile, as they don’t know where Zohra is – and will never be able to find her, now that she’s under Musa’s family’s protection.

Unfortunately, even this so-called “interesting twist” is simply not that interesting. The story of “Raqs E Bismil” has been stagnant for weeks now and while it’s great that Zohra is now in safe hands, Musa’s struggle continues and this is difficult to watch. Now if there were hope of a reunion in the next episode, one could appreciate the storyline; however, from the promos, it seems his search will continue even next week. While star-crossed lovers kept apart by the world is the theme of the story, there has to be some substance to it. What is the point of a show about two lovers when the lovers are almost never seen interacting? The pace needs to pick up and the story needs to move along to a logical ending now. Dragging a show needlessly only diminishes the quality of the project – and the quality has been diminished greatly in the last 4 episodes.
