Wonder Woman fans have been left in the dark after the Warner Bros Studio postponed the debut of the superhero sequel Wonder Woman 1984 until Christmas Day. Fans will have to wait just a little bit longer owing to the Coronavirus pandemic that has delayed and halted a number of plans and events. Many theatres too remain closed due to the spread of the virus.
The Gal Gadot starrer was previously scheduled for release on October 2 but the date has now shifted to December 25. It was all set to be the next big-budget Hollywood slated for release. “Because I know how important it is to bring this film to you on a big screen, when all of us can share the experience together, I’m hopeful you won’t mind waiting just a little bit longer,” director Patty Jenkins said in a statement.
The pandemic brought a number of films and schedules to a halt for months on end and have been shuffling their timetables, which forced theatres around the world to shut their doors in March. And now, as lockdown restrictions have eased and businesses begin to open, cinemas have slowly but surely started reopening but with limited capacity. Some theatres around the world however, like those in the United States remain closed.

The United States market was tested by Warner Bros when they released Christopher Nolan’s thriller Tenet in late August. The film, which cost more than $200 million to produce, had generated global ticket sales of $146.2 million through last weekend. The next upcoming Hollywood blockbuster is Black Widow from Walt Disney Co’s Marvel Studios which is currently slated for release on November 6. James Bond installment No Time to Die, from Comcast Corp’s Universal Pictures and MGM Studios, is scheduled for November 20.
