“Sabaat” is a show that has kept its audience hooked with a different story. Starring Mawra Hocane, Ameer Gilani, Sarah Khan and Usman Mukhtar in lead roles, the show follows the lives of these two couples and their (unstable) relationships. While “Sabaat” has been losing focus over the last few episodes and has taken a turn for the heavy, the show does continue on that path in episode 24, but brings the focus back to the emotional relationship between characters.
Miraal (Sarah Khan) visits Haaris (Usman Mukhtar) at work to expose his lies, verified by Atif (Abbas Ashraf Awan). Has Atif simply become Miraal’s sidekick or what? He is being put to work for “dealing” with Hassan, but now also spying on Haaris? What is his ulterior motive, exactly? A job? Is the job really that incredible? Haaris is shocked when he realizes Miraal has caught his lie, but before he can explain, she demands a divorce and leaves, turning her phone off. Their marriage is at a breaking point and it’s clear that Miraal is in no mood to be forgiving. What remains to be seen is whether Haaris finally snaps out of it and realizes that Miraal is simply not worth it or will we continue to see Haaris attempting to pacify his not-so-stable wife? Sarah Khan’s performance is great and Usman Mukhtar does a decent job, but it’s time for a real shakeup with this relationship as both these characters have become stagnant. Miraal is always angry and Haaris is always pacifying, so when will a change in demeanor come about? We are waiting.
As Hassan (Ameer Gilani) continues to brood over his “cheating wife,” his father and sister find joy in his return home while his mother tries to make him see what a big mistake he has made. She is an innocent in this entire situation, a woman who had hopes that her son would be different from her husband and daughter – and he has let her down. She is a character that one can really sympathize with and Laila Zuberi is doing a great job.
The stars of episode 24 are, without a doubt, Mawra Hocane, Mohammad Ahmed and Seemi Raheel. This trio puts forth their best work and leaves the viewer in tears. Anaya struggles to conceal her knowledge of her father’s illness while hiding her marital troubles from her father as well. Anaya and her father share some beautiful moments as he advises her to always work and stay independent, trying to impart some life knowledge before leaving her while Anaya’s mother finds herself caught between the two, trying to be strong for both Anaya and her husband. The scene in the ambulance when Mawra’s father passes away has been performed brilliantly, reducing the viewer to tears with the realism of the relationship portrayed and the motions. Mawra Hocane once said “Sabaat” taught her a lot about acting and that this was her best performance. Without a doubt, viewers can see the truth in those words. Mawra is giving her career-best and has been supported 100% by wonderful co-actors in the form of Seemi Raheel and Mohammad Ahmed.

Miraal is a character that is not only unable to maintain her own relationships, but she won’t let Hassan do so either. There’s a brief moment in the episode when Miraal finds out about Anaya’s father that one imagines she may have had a moment of empathy….but two blinks later, Miraal is back to her conspiring ways. To say Miraal is poisonous would be an understatement and it’s becoming unpalatable that Haaris has yet to realize that Miraal needs intense therapy (at the very least). Her behavior is not normal and the fact that her behavior has gone unchecked this long not only by her family, but her psychiatrist husband is incomprehensible. It will be interesting to see how long Miraal manages to keep Anaya’s father’s death from Hassan and the rest of the family – and what will be the outcome of this move?
