Bollywood star Saif Ali Khan has always come across as balanced and easygoing. The superstar has been in the Indian film industry for almost three decades, belting out blockbuster hits from time to time. Often referred to as the Nawab of Pataudi, he is married to B-town A-lister Kareena Kapoor Khan, with who he shares a son Taimur. The celebrity power couple is always making waves, be it on the professional or personal front. Talking to The Brown Identity in a recent interview, Saif spilled the beans on his youngest son, Covid-19 times, the nepotism debate and more. Give it a read!
Q. How has your son Taimur AIi Khan reacted to the five months of lockdown?
Saif Ali Khan: It is heartbreaking how easily children adjust to the most difficult of situations. Taimur just runs around the house. It’s a miracle he doesn’t bump into the furniture, although we have a small apartment. Many parents are advised to move out their furniture when there is a little child in the house. Luckily, we never had that problem with Taimur.
Q. Does Taimur want to be an actor like his parents or a cricketer like his grandfather?
Saif: He has absolutely no interest in cricket. My elder son Ebrahim is a very good cricketer. I have tried putting a bat in Taimur’s hand and he has rejected it. Taimur is more into the arts. He likes drawing, painting and singing. He makes a lot of faces. These days he wants to be Lord Rama. He loves the idea of dressing up and the bow and arrow.
Q. Now that shooting has resumed do you think it is safe to step out for work?
Saif: No! I am scared! But I might have to get back to work to shoot for Yash Raj Films’ Bunty Aur Babli. We are really doing our bit, first by staying home and now by going to work.
Q. What is your take on the raging debate on nepotism?
Saif: I don’t think I can comment on the debate. I have worked hard to not take sides and have kept my head down, worked and gone home to my family.
Q. Is this industry easier for an actor from a film family than an outsider?
Saif: Obviously I am privileged. We all think we work hard. But some have it harder. Therefore, it’s left to others to debate. I feel the film industry is also democratic and a meritocracy. But there are controlling, selfish and sometimes corrupt influences for sure.

Q. What makes you happy at this point in your life?
Saif: I’m happy living life, cooking, working and having a great time with family and friends. Doing creative work. Rest is all unappealing to me.
Q. How do you feel about the prolonged quarantine?
Saif: We should overcome this soon. I am getting a bit fed up.
