Sajal Aly To Star As Lead In Series Adaptation Of Umrao Jaan Ada

The Latest adaptation starring Sajal Aly will be in Urdu.

Just when we thought actor Sajal Aly has finally made her mark on a global level with her debut Hollywood movie “What’s Love Got To Do With It?”, she surprises her fans yet again. The Mom actor is all set to appear in the series adaptation of well-known novel Umrao Jaan Ada. The series will be in Urdu language and will star two female characters, one that will be played by Sajal Aly. The other female lead is yet to be finalised with other cast members.

For the unversed, Umrao Jaan Ada is a urdu novel written by Mirza Hadi Ruswa published in the year 1899. It is considered the first Urdu novel by many and tells the story of a courtesan and poet by the same name from 19th century Lucknow, as recounted by her to the author.

According to Hamid. A. Hussain Instagram handle,” The latest adaptation starring Aly will be in the original Urdu Language. Abu Dhabi based south Asian celebrity management agency Action Consultancy is packing and producing the project. Hamid Hussain and Muhammad Yaqoob are the producers.

Hussain told Variety that the series adaptation relies “heavily on the original version of the novel, unlike the film adaptations that has taken creative liberties to fit the story into a film narrative.” Adding, “there is a lot in the novel that has never been shown in an audio-visual project.” The series will also feature a second strong female lead from the novel. The project is currently in development and is expected to head to a major steamer.
