Pakistani web show Churails has been lauded for its powerful storyline and solid direction. However, what really brought filmmaker Asim Abbasi’s vision to life were the stellar acting skills portrayed by the four lead actresses on-screen. Each one of the ladies swept us off our feet and left audiences wanting more! The hype surrounding the show – which released on August 11 on the leading Indian streaming platform ZEE5 – has certainly not died down yet and the starlets are still in the limelight for their spectacular work. One of the Churails who sets out to change the male-dominated world and slam patriarchy through her own life story is Pakistani star Sarwat Gilani. The Indian Express recently caught up with the actor to learn more about the acclaimed show.
Talking to the publication, Sarwat revealed that her image of the word ‘Churails’ changed after the show, adding that she does not mind being call one anymore. “My perspective of the word ‘Churail’ has changed after working on the show. I believe that someone who is labelled a ‘Churail’ is strong, fearless and opinionated. I don’t mind being called a ‘Churail’ anymore.”
She also shed light on the strong message the show aimed to convey to viewers. “The ultimate purpose is to uplift sisterhood and womanhood in society. I hope the show leaves behind a question that leads to much-needed change. The direction we want to take this to, aims at bringing a strong change around us.” Speaking about the criticism Churails received, Sarwat earlier, “Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. We can’t make people change their minds and think like us. But we surely can make a story which gives them a lot of insight to the rising issues that women are facing locally and globally. We want people to watch the show and have an opinion then.” Besides Sarwat, Churails also stars Mehar Bano, Yasra Rizvi and Nimra Bucha.
