Sayonee: Bollywood’s Version Of Pakistani Hit Gets Heavily Criticised On Twitter

The 1997 Junoon song Sayonee is one of the biggest hits to date. Crooned by the band’s leading member Ali Azmat, the single is still a fan favourite today. While Coke Studio released a reworked version of the number back in 2017 featuring bigwigs Ali Noor and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, it did not sit well with music lovers, who expressed outrage over the rendition and flooded social media with memes and jokes regarding the same. Now, Bollywood has released a modified version of the Sayonee original and Twitter is clearly having a field day with all sorts of reactions. Sung by Indian playback singer Arijit Singh, the song has been produced by Lucky Nadiadwala and directed by Nitin Kumar Gupta and Abhay Singhal. Internet users are calling out the new Sayonee for plagiarism and ruining an iconic masterpiece. Here are the top reactions:

“Is this revenge for what we did to Abhinandan?” questioned one user. Another added, “Honestly, I’ll personally bully you into deleting this. Pewdiepie was nothing.” Many users have also called out the song for bearing similarities to the original. “Humarey song ko srf hm bigaaar skte Hain koi or nh (Our songs can only be ruined by us, no one else),” penned a user.

Junoon fans expressed great disappointment in Bollywood for making a disaster out of a superhit single loved by many around the world. “I personally sue them for ruining my best memories of growing up,” read a post. A similar one read, “Bollywood just ruined a beautiful song of ours. Cringefest.” Interestingly, it was not just Pakistanis but a few Indians who stood in agreement too. “Dear Pakistanis, even we Indians are not liking this. We actually find this garbage and T-Series has been well known to turn old master pieces into garbage. Such a garbage that it doesn’t even deserve a dustbin,” revealed an Indian user. Taking a jibe at the newly released song, another added, “If Pakistan goes to war with India over this, I see no wrong.” Evidently, the song missed the mark with many Indians, with another user stating, Junoon version only for me please. Sayonee was my first into to Junoon and I got obsessed with them!!!”
