Six Basic Skincare Steps Every Girl Should Follow

In the digital age, we have become overwhelmed with information, be it about skincare or trends or news. We are constantly being told what we should be doing, how we should be doing it and how often we should be doing it. With the overflow of information out there, it can oftentimes become confusing and hard to keep up. One such example is with skin care. We are inundated with information on all the products we need to look youthful, all the products we need to protect ourselves from the sun, the serums that will give us a glow and the treatments that will tighten our skin and so on.

If that isn’t enough, there are also a number of steps that now come with skincare including toning and cleansing and derma rolling at home and applying masks and serums and what not. It is inevitable that if you do not follow a lengthy skincare regimen, you might find yourself drowning in all this information. We know exactly how that feels and to make life easy for you, we’ve put together a quick guide for an easy-to-follow skincare routine that will take you under 10 minutes.

Cleanse

The most basic of all the steps. Cleanse, cleanse, cleanse! Both day and night. A good cleanser will rid your skin of all the bacteria, toxins and dirt that it has been exposed to throughout the day and will prepare your skin for the rest of your routine and the products that you are going to use. You can opt for a cream or oil based cleanser or a water based one. On days when you’ve been wearing makeup or exposed to more toxins you can double cleanse. Wash your face and pat dry with tissue, avoid using a towel on your face.

How To Get A Sunkissed Glow Without Going To The Beach This Summer

Tone

When you cleanse your face, your skin tends to lose its natural pH value. A toner will set it straight and should be the first step after you have cleansed your face. Some toners contain Glycolic acid so find one that suits your skin type. If you are using a toner that contains glycolic acid, avoid using a Vitamin C serum with it. Apply your toner to a cotton pad and rub on to your face and neck.

Apply serum

A good serum is what enables your products to really get deep into the skin instead of staying on the surface level. The formula enables the next set of products to go deeper through the pores and this is when your skin care really works; when the product is able to reach the skin on a deeper level. Serums often come with a dropper, ensure that it does not touch your skin and apply the product by dropping it on to your cheeks and forehead. Circulate the formula all over the face and neck but do not rub it in. Allow the serum to seap through the skin.

Eye cream and moisturise

After allowing the serum to dry, it is time to apply your eye cream and moisturiser. Just a small dollop of eye cream will suffice for both eyes so don’t over do it. apply the eye cream to your under eyes in gentle circular motions and let the product do its work. Wait a few seconds before moving on to the moisturiser. Apply a generous amount of moisturiser to all your face and neck and let the product work its way into your pored.

Face oil

Many swear by using facial oil. The job of a face oil is to seal in all the products you have used in the previous steps. It locks in and seals all the moisture and ensures that your skin stays hydrated. A face oil also does a great job of protecting the outer layer of your skin and keeps any water from your skin from escaping.

Sunscreen

Last but not least, probably the most important step in your skin care routine is the SPF. A sunscreen of SPF 30 and above acts as a great barrier to protect your skin from UV rays which can cause premature ageing and sun damage. Sunscreen should always be the last and final step of your routine as it is the thickest formula and acts as a barrier. Do not ever forgo the sunscreen if you plan to stay indoors. UV rays are able to make their way through glass and windows and can wreak havoc on your skin.

These six easy and essential steps are all you need to ensure a healthy glow.
