This Karachi College Is Facing A Trash Heap: Here’s What Social Media Users Had To Say

Anything posted on Twitter takes minutes to become viral. The good thing is that the micro-blogging site allows social media users to engage in healthy debate about subjects close to their heart. Some even use the platform to raise awareness about a particular issue that has been neglected or overlooked. This morning, Pakistani users have been posting pictures of the Siraj ud Daulah Govt Degree College Karachi, showing horrific sites of heaps of trash right outside the university’s premises. Surely not a pleasant sight, the images are now making waves on Twitter for all the right reasons. It’s high time for a wakeup call!

Originally from Pakistan, Dubai-based journalist Mahwash Ajaz tweeted, “Siraj ud Daulah Govt Degree College Karachi is facing a trash heap. If everyone’s done politicking, can we please pay attention to these actual issues our students and children are facing?” She re-tweeted a post uploaded by a student named Mubashir, who claimed that while he has been writing to relevant authorities, his efforts are in vain. “This is the view right in front if Siraj ud Daulah Govt Degree College. I have been writing to authorities but no response,” his post read. The user added, “Here I am adding some pictures of the front gate of the collage with the trash yard just in front of the collage. We are unable to enter the collage as well because of the great holes and such bad smell, it is hard to even sit in the collage due to the strong smell of trash.” He continued, “The condition there is bad. I have asked all the ministers, provincial and federal, but there is no reply. I even asked the principal to write to authorities and the answer I got was, ‘I have been writing but there is no action yet’.”

Mubashir mentioned that people started hurling abuses at him when they saw him making videos of the sad state of affairs outside the college. “I am going to share a video here of a closeup of the trash yard it was really hard getting that close and hiding from the people cause people their even started abusing me when I started shooting and I had to make an escape when two youngsters started rushing towards me.” In a heartfelt conclusion to his post, Mubashir penned, “I don’t mean to be involved in any type of politics nor criticize any single body of government. I just want my study place clean and green so the future of Pakistan does not have to pass through humps of trash.” Responding to Mubashir’s posts, one user commented, “Very shameful and poor performance of Municipal Committee. Dist. Central. Concerned public officials must perform their duty promptly.” Many other users also came forward to support Mubashir and further his cause for the greater good.
