Ringing in the Holy month of Ramadan, a UAE cabinet meeting was held yesterday (April 14) at Qasr Al Watan in Abu Dhabi, in the presence of H H Lt General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, and H H Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs. While several decisions were made and policies adopted, among them was the National Autism Policy, which aims at improving the health, well-being and lifestyle of people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and to supporting caregivers, reported Emirates News Agency.
Moreover, the new policy also concentrates on fine-tuning the skills of personal working in ASD centres and raising the efficiency of the services offered. The UAE government has been launching and implementing initiatives and programmes that touch the lives of people with ASD for some time now. However, the National Autism Policy allows these efforts to be organised and moving in a consistent direction to work together to support patients and their families. The Policy ensures that all autistic have full and equal access to the resources they require to achieve their full potential.
The cabinet received a briefing from Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashemy, Minister of State for International Cooperation and Director-General of Expo 2020 Dubai, about the latest preparations and readiness of all teams and the participation of the UAE federal government entities in the event that is held under the theme ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future’. It also adopted the UAE Strategy for Talent Attraction and Retention, focused on strengthening the UAE’s leading position as a preferred destination for living, working and investing, added the publication.

Dubai has long been interested towards improving the quality of life for autistic individuals. Recently, VOX Cinemas collaborated with Dubai Autism Centre to introduce ‘Sensory Friendly Screenings’, specifically curated for children with sensory difficulties, who can enjoy a film with friends and family in a comfortable ambience. Sensory Friendly Screenings are designed to lower overstimulation. Modifications are made to a typical movie experience such as reducing the audio volume, dimming the lights for the duration of the film, cutting out trailers and allowing a limited quota of people in the auditorium. The Sensory Friendly Screenings can be viewed at VOX Cinemas in Mall of the Emirates, Yas Mall, City Centre Sharjah, City Centre Fujairah, Al Jimi Mall and City Centre Ajman.
