It is common for those residing in the UAE to commute between Dubai and Abu Dhabi for work-related meetings on weekdays, mini getaways over the weekend and to meet friends and family. While most people travel for the same in their personal vehicles, it seems like Careem has found a simple and convenient option for individuals living in both emirates. The company has now launched a new service, City to City, to promote inter-city travel, while still complying to COVID-19 rules and precautions. People moving between Dubai and Abu Dhabi will be asked to undergo a PCR test before crossing the border.
They will have to obtain a negative Covid-19 test 48 hours before travel. “In light of the Corona pandemic and the new lifestyle habits it imposed, Careem quickly took many precautionary measures through tech-enabled solutions and on-ground efforts ensuring the highest levels of safety in its rides,” said Gheed El Makkoui, General Manager of Careem UAE. He added, “These measures included all the 13 countries in which Careem operates, and varied between the necessity of wearing masks, using hand sanitizer and disinfecting cars daily.”

Careem also allows customers to cancel a ride if the driver is not wearing a mask, without any cancellation penalties. All drivers not only have to wear a mask, but are provided with hygiene kits and must make sure that their cars are well ventilated too. Careem Max cars offer rides to up to four passengers, while once again sticking to social distancing guidelines. Max cars seat two passengers in the middle row, with the other two seated at the back row, ensuring contactless rides between customers and drivers. Careem also recently launched a new ‘super app’ to offer all its services on a single platform. The new app will provide ride-hailing, food delivery as well as Careem Pay services to all its 33 million registered users.
