In a first, the United Arab Emirates is all set to amend its citizenship laws to make it possible for expats to receive the Emirati nationality, so long as they meet the criteria set by the authorities. A report published in the in a UAE publication cited a circular which was sought from the Ministry of Justice.
Excerpts of the circular from the Ministry of Justice show text from the amendments which grant citizenship to investors, entrepreneurs, professionals and people with special talents in accordance with the stipulated rules and regulations.
In addition, two other amendments to the UAE’s Citizenship Act would also include the prohibition of the use of a passport except for the purpose for which it was issued while another stipulates the prohibiting the withholding of a passport in cases other than those legally established.

Some of the conditions which have been mentioned in the circular include renouncing the nationality you hold or any other nationality you may have. You would also have to be fluent in Arabic and have a lawful and continuous residence in the country. You would have to have a good record of conduct and a good academic qualification. Further, you would also have to have a legitimate means of subsistence.
Those wanting to get citizenship would also have to obtain security approval and would also have to pledge allegiance to the state. In May of 2018, the cabinet adopted a new law of entry visas for investors and professionals and provided them with a long-term “Golden Residency” for up to 10 years.
