It is not uncommon for film sets to be attacked and shootings to be halted. It has happened before and continues to do so. Many Bollywood films including Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s blockbuster hit Padmaavat have fallen prey to the same. Pakistani star Meera Jee was allegedly exposed to the same this past weekend. The actor – known for her notable work in Wujood and Baaji among others – was shooting for a stage play in Faisalabad when havoc broke out outside a theatre. Armed men opened fire outside a theatre where several artists were rehearsing. The unidentified men reportedly had their faces covered.
The assailants snatched weapons from the guards and fled. The gunmen opened fire outside Sabina Theater in Chenab Chowk, Faisalabad. CCTV footage of the incident was released on national television soon after. In an attempt to control the situation, the police took weapons from the security guards sitting at the gate of the theatre during the attack. The police has now registered a case against the unknown men.

Meera Jee has also been vocal about the recent rape incident on the Lahore-Sialkot motorway. Condemning the event on her Instagram, she posted a picture with some text written on it. It read, “Drug dealers get longer sentences than rapists. People ask for drugs. No one asks for rape.” Many of her fans took to the comments section and lauded her for speaking up about an issue that has become the centre of debate in Pakistan, with country’s citizens also staging protests in different cities. Earlier this year, the veteran Lollywood actor had also applied for financial help from the Artist Support Fund. She was offered Rs5,000 financial help from the Lahore Arts Council. The actor had initially sought Rs 40 million, claiming that her finances were in dire straits.
