Upcoming Pakistani Dramas to Look Out for In 2021

At present, there’s a whole slew of new shows set to begin airing on different channels. With as many as 7 new shows set to go on air within the next 1-3 weeks, which shows should viewers look out for? Here are some of the more promising shows that are (potentially) worth watching in upcoming weeks.

Khuda Aur Mohabbat 3

“Khuda Aur Mohabbat” is a show that brings along great expectations with it. After two successful previous seasons, it would not be a stretch to say “Khuda Aur Mohabbat 3” is most likely the most awaited show for fans of Pakistani dramas. Starring Feroz Khan and Iqra Aziz in lead roles this time around, supported by Junaid Khan, Tooba Siddiqui, Sunita Marshal, Javed Sheikh, Seemi Pasha and other talented actors. Previous seasons have shown stories focusing on love through a religious lens, equating the beauty of love to love felt for the Almighty, bringing the lead closer to God through his love. The story promises to be something different this time around and has already captured the audience with the teasers. Written by Hashim Nadeem and directed by Wajahat Hussain, “Khuda Aur Mohabbat 3” is set to release soon on Har Pal Geo.

Pehli Si Muhabbat

Maya Ali and Shehryar Munawar were both last seen on the small-screen in 2014 with “Sanam” and “Aasmanon Pe Likha” respectively, focusing on the big screen instead. “Pehli Si Muhabbat” marks their return to television. Hassan Shehryar also plays a prominent role in this drama. The show has been directed by Anjum Shehzad and written by Faiza Iftikhar, which increases expectations from the word “go.” The teasers promise a visual treat and the story seems to be an out-and-out love story, focusing on young, budding love set in a small neighborhood (gali). This is certainly a show that viewers are looking forward to. The show is set to premiere on ARY in upcoming weeks.

Raqeeb Se

The first thing to stand out about “Raqeeb Se” is its cast. Star-studded with talented actors like Noman Ijaz, Sania Saeed, Iqra Aziz, Faryal Mehmood and Saba Hameed, the show also marks singer Hadiqa Kiani’s acting debut. The story appears to revolve around a woman re-entering her ex-lover’s life after escaping from an abusive marriage. Directed by Kashif Nisar and written by Bee Gul, this is a drama with “power” written all over it. Hum TV has heavily been promoting the show’s teasers, though it’s not clear which show it will replace, and great things are expected.

Qayamat

“Qayamat” sees Ahsan Khan portraying a negative role once again, something he has done very successfully in the past with “Udaari.” The show has been directed by Ali Faizan and written by Sarwat Nazir. The show stars Ahsan Khan, Neelam Muneer, Amar Khan and Haroon Shahid in lead roles in a story that follows the lives of two sisters. When one sister’s marriage ends in tragedy, the other must make the difficult decision of how to seek justice. With a very talented cast and an interesting story, this is a show that’s sure to grab hold of viewer interest.

Dil Na Umeed To Nahin

“Dil Na Umeed To Nahin” is a show that has been made in collaboration with the Kashf Foundation, who have also collaborated to with dramas like “Udaari” and “Rehaai” in the past. This drama will be a multi-track story, including subjects like female aspirations, human trafficking and child abuse. The show will see three different stories coming together, so it’s not surprising that the cast is extensive – and very talented. Cast names include Yumna Zaidi, Wahaj Ali, Noman Ijaz, Samiya Mumtaz, Yasra Rizvi, Nadia Afgan, Omaira Rana, Naveed Shehzad and Noor Ul Hassan. This drama has been written by Amna Mufti and directed by Kashif Nisar and will be aired on TV One soon, as the promos are already on air.

Phaans

“Phaans” is said to be based on many social issues, though the exact story is not clear. This drama stars Shehzad Sheikh, Sami Khan, Zara Noor Abbas and Yashma Gill in lead roles, has been written by Samina Ejaz and directed by Ahmed Kamran. The show is said to have Shehzad Sheikh in a completely different role this time around, which can be seen in the promos of the show on Hum TV, where Shehzad appears to be playing a character with a sort of neurological disorder.

Faisal Qureshi’s New Show

While the name of Faisal Qureshi and Hiba Bukhari’s new show has yet to be revealed, the promos of this show have also gone on air, set to air on Har Pal Geo soon. The cast also includes Wahaj Ali, Ismat Zaidi, Farhan Ali Agha, Saba Hameed and others. The show has been written by Zanjabeel Asim Shah and has been directed by Siraj Ul Haq. Faisal Qureshi has gone on record, stating that his role is very different from that which he played in “Muqaddar,” so It will be interesting to see what this story offers – especially because the story and details have been kept so tightly under wraps.

Of course, “Raqs E Bismil” and “Dunk” are two other shows that have recently gone on air, adding to the drama lineup of shows worth watching. One can only hope these shows live up to the excitement and curiosity they have managed to set off, as viewers are actively searching for dramas with good content these days.
