US President Donald Trump, Melania Trump contract Covid-19 and the internet has a field day

If you’re kickstarting your Friday, you would have heard that US President Donald Trump, together with the First Lady, Melania Trump have been tested for the Coronavirus. The news comes hours after the president’s top advisor Hope Hicks contracted the virus. The president himself took to microblogging site, Twitter, to share the news.

 

“Tonight, @FLOTUS and I tested positive for COVID-19. We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get through this TOGETHER!,” he wrote.

 

 

Hope Hicks is known to regularly travel with the president on the Air Force One, along with other senior aides. Just recently they headed to Ohio for the presidential debate on Tuesday and to Minnesota for a campaign event on Wednesday. Donald Trump assured everyone that they had commenced their quarantine period and will be recovering together.

 

Many people, including Prime Minister Imran Khan took to social media to wish the two all the best and a speedy recovery. “Wishing President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump speedy recovery from COVID-19,” he penned on Twitter.

 

 

While many sent their well wishes and offered their support, there were some who saw a more amusing side to the US president and his wife having contracted the virus. Twitter has been abuzz with the news and lets just say, everyone has more than just an opinion on the news. “It’s time to start injecting disinfectant as soon as possible,” wrote one user, referring to the time when Donald Trump had questioned if bleach or disinfectant could be ingested to rid yourself of the virus.

 

Many pointed out that his positive test result comes just weeks before the election and questioned whether it was a bid to gain publicity and move attention away from his contender, Joe Biden. “Just weeks before election? Many tweets referred to the Donald Trump’s suggestion of ingesting disinfectant which he made during an address to the nation. “The treatment is simple, but you have to start it today: a drink every eight hours will be enough. No prescription is required,” a Twitter user wrote while sharing a picture of a bottle of disinfectant.

 

 

Others also made references to the Hydroxychloroquine medication which was alleged earlier to have the cure to the virus, according to Donald Trump. “Thankfully, you use the taxpayer dollars to buy a lot of hydroxychloroquine, so you should be just fine. If that doesn’t work, there is always bleach. Thoughts and prayers, champ.”
