Never before has it happened that a member of the British Royal family votes in a US Presidential Election. Well, there is always a first time! Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle has made history after allegedly submitting a mail-in ballot during the ongoing American elections, which have Donald Trump being pitted against his political rival, Joe Biden. She has become the first known British royal to do so since most are often encouraged to remain politically neutral – something which Prince Harry himself confessed to while appearing on Time magazine’s TIME100 TV special in September this year.
“Meghan was an American long before she was a royal. She wouldn’t miss voting in this election no matter where she was living,” revealed a source close to the former Suits star. In the months leading up to the 2020 US election, Meghan had urged her fans, especially women to cast their votes. “They (Meghan and Harry) have taken a keen interest in this election and I’m sure they are eagerly awaiting the outcome,” added the insider.

Earlier, Meghan also shed light on the importance of voting in an online summit called When All Women Vote Couch Party. “When we look at the attempts at voter suppression and what that’s doing it’s all the more reason, we need each of you to be out there supporting each other, to understand that this fight is worth fighting, and we all have to be out there mobilising to have our voices heard,” she had said. Prince Harry, being British, is not eligible to vote. “This election, I’m not going to be able to vote here in the U.S.,” he told Times magazine previously. “But many of you may not know that I haven’t been able to vote in the U.K. my entire life. As we approach this November, it’s vital that we reject hate speech, misinformation, and online negativity.” During the same time, Meghan had said, “Every four years, we are told the same thing: that this is the most important election of our lifetime. But this one is. When we vote, our values are put into action and our voices are heard. Your voice is a reminder that you matter, because you do, and you deserve to be heard.”
