Will Dil Bechara Live Up To Sushant’s Fans’ Expectations?

Sushant Singh Rajput’s tragic passing left Bollywood shaken. The actor passed away on June 14, just before the release of his film Dil Bechara. As far as the moviegoing audience is concerned, Sushant’s farewell film to be streamed by Disney-Hotstar on July 24, is already a hit. They have already embraced the film, no matter what its quality. Mukesh Chabra, who makes his debut as a director is petrified of the love that the film is generating in the audience.

“It is as if they’ve already seen the film and loved it. There is no scope for second thoughts here,” he says. Posthumous releases are not unknown in Bollywood or Hollywood. In 1955 when James Dean died suddenly—as suddenly as Sushant—his release after death Rebel Without A Cause became an instant hit and an enduring classic.

Something similar is about to happen with Sushant in Dil Bechara. The film wasn’t easy to make. But Mukesh feels the blood sweat and tears won’t go to waste. “Sushant’s fans will make  sure the hard work we put in won’t  go unrewarded. The fame he has acquired after his death is unheard of,” he adds. Dil Bechara centres on a love story involving two cancer patients, starring the late Sushant opposite Sanjana Sanghi. It is based on the novel `The Fault in Our Stars’ by John Green. The film’s release has been postponed multiple times in the past because of post-production delays and then again due to the COVID-19 pandemic in India.
