Woh Pagal Si Episodes 1 & 2: A Love Story Between Manipulators And Their Elderly Target

While “Woh Pagal Si” looks slightly over the top, the storyline is a unique one.  Starring Babar Ali, Zubab Rana, Omer Shahzad, Saad Qureshi and Hira Khan in central roles, the story has been written by Sadia Akhter and directed by Faisal Bukhari.  The story is described by the channel as being about a girl, Sarah, and her clashes with her father’s second wife.  However, the first two episodes show that there’s much more to the story than just this.

We are introduced to Sara (Hira Khan), who is the very definition of a spoiled brat, all her whims, tantrums and demands met by not only Ahsan (Babar Ali), her father, but also her sister Bela and Buaa.  This young woman wastes money and hurts sentiments in an equally ridiculous way.  Still, Ahsan is unable to hurt his daughters and loves them unconditionally.  While Bela’s marriage preparations are underway, Sara refuses to get married and ever leave her father’s side.  We do, however, know that this resolve won’t last when she begins to interact with Zaheen (Saad Qureshi), the educated son of her father’s driver.

We are also introduced to Shazma (Zubab Rana) and Wahaj (Omer Shahzad), two beautiful individuals who have been blessed with great looks, but incredibly low incomes and dire circumstances.  While Shazma is a hard worker and provides for her household by working for Ahsan in his company, Wahaj proves to be a horribly negative influence on her.  She shows her dreams of how it could be for them both if Shazma traps her boss, Ahsan, and marries him before taking all his wealth for herself (and Wahaj).  While Shazma doesn’t seem like a “bad” person initially, it is clear that Wahaj has gotten into her head and from this point on, both her and Wahaj’s plotting take things to the next level.  The two create a scenario where Ahsan is forced to think about marrying Shazma after she is “disgraced” by society.

Right away, it’s impressive that the lead character is not a squeaky clean one.  She is flawed, she is gullible and she has circumstances that force her to make really questionable, shady choices.  We also have a smart, loving, intelligent and worldly older man in Ahsan who is not a gullible man – rather, he is trapped into a master plan where he finds himself backed against a corner.  It’s wonderful to see Babar Ali in a role like this. It will be interesting to see Shazma in Ahsan’s house when she comes face to face with Sara, who is also a master manipulator.  Who will bow in this situation?  Will Sara expose Shazma or will Shazma change and abandon Wahaj after entering Ahsan’s house?  It’s an interesting plot and while it’s sure to be full of melodramatic moments, the cast guarantees entertainment.
