Yeh Na Thi Hamari Qismat Episode 15: Muneeb Butt’s Ayaan Disappoints

“Yeh Na Thi Hamari Qismat” has become a guilty pleasure of sorts for many Pakistani drama viewers, a show which airs on Monday through Thursday.  Starring Hira Mani, Aiza Awan, Noor Hassan, Muneeb Butt, Saba Faisal, Annie Zaidi, Kinza Malik, Salma Hassan and others, the story has been written by Seema Munaf and directed by Syed Ali Raza Usama.  The story follows two sisters with vastly different personalities who are married into one (toxic) household.

In episode 14, we saw incredible progress in Munteha (Hira Mani) and Ayaan’s (Muneeb Butt) relationship.  This appeared to be the loving, supportive relationship that viewers could root for and use as an example as to how men should treat their wives.  However, after one solid episode of support and sweet moments, Ayaan has suddenly snapped back into his “old” self, having only changed for one day.  He is back to taunting Munteha for “her money” after being asked to get a receipt from his friend of a business partner (read: crook), lashing out at her for being smarter than him and really, just not being very nice.  Munteha has to constantly pacify Ayaan in order for him to calm down and his behavior isn’t likable.  To make matters worse, we can see in the next episode that he will lost all “trust” in Munteha (as if he ever trusted her) after finding her sitting alone with a stranger.  It’s a different discussion entirely as to why Munteha would meet her sister-in-law’s boyfriend alone, but why wouldn’t Ayaan just discuss it with Munteha instead of lashing out in the middle of the street?  Obviously this part hasn’t aired yet, but we are clearly in for a mess of a situation.

On the other side, we have Alishba (Aiza Awan) and Yasir (Noor Hassan), the couple from hell.  While Alishba is painted out to be the “bad guy,” Alishba has been married off in a rush at the age of 20 under horrible circumstances.  She is young, she is immature and she was definitely not ready to step into a responsible wife role.  So while Alishba’s behavior is atrocious and she has absolutely no concept of self-control, it’s still easier to sympathize with her over Yasir.  Yasir is a coward, a man who cannot control his wife, cannot express himself properly to his parents and is incapable of taking a strong stand.  With all his professions of love, that love has disappeared and he is now always seen fighting with Alishba.  Is Alishba an overgrown brat?  Of course!  But Yasir isn’t any better.  He has agreed to move out with Alishba in hopes of making her return home – but is going along with living in a 1 lakh a month apartment and then, has the audacity to ask his parents for the 6 month advance…..6 lakhs to move out when his intention is to move back home.  What is wrong with this man?

The enjoyability factor comes from Kinza Awan’s “Phupo” role and her bickering with Saba Faisal’s character, but now with the two on different floors of the house, they are rarely seen interacting.  “Yeh Na Thi Hamari Qismat” is honestly telling a very realistic story, but in a sightly over-the-top way.  This one isn’t a show to take too seriously, but it’s an entertaining watch.
