Yun Tu Hai Pyar Bohut Episode 23: Affan Waheed Remains The Star Of the Show As Zain

“Yun Tu Pyar Hai Bohut” has become a guilty pleasure of sorts, a slightly melodramatic story told in an entertaining fashion without over-the-top storytelling. The story focuses on Aima and Zain, a young couple torn apart despite loving one another due to their financial dreams and aspirations. This drama stars Affan Waheed, Hira Mani, Maryam Mirza, Javed Sheikh, Sabeena Syed, Nadia Hussain and others in lead roles. The story has been written by Aliya Bukhari while the drama has been directed by Kashif Saleem.

Much of episode 23 is focused on Nazi (Abeer Sajid) and her relationship with her boss, which is growing murkier than ever. Nazi clearly has feelings for Faakhir, Zain’s friend, but she’s going on trips with her boss and openly dating him. This track is pretty “forward” for Pakistani television – though we are all aware that it happens, it’s rarely depicted on television (we all remember Mere Paas Tum Ho and the controversy with Ayeza Khan’s hotel room scene). Nazi’s character needs to be reeled in pretty soon, otherwise there will be little hope for redemption. Mohsin (Javed Sheikh) and his ex-wife have begun to butt heads often, particularly because Aima and Nazi’s mother refuses to see reason. She is so fixated now on hating Mohsin that she does not realize the harm she is inflicting upon her own daughters by ignoring his words. Aima’s mother is oddly the most irritating character on the show at present. While her feelings towards Mohsin are valid, the way she is taking out her anger is not acceptable. At present, Mohsin has realized Zain’s (Affan Waheed) importance in Aima’s (Hira Mani) life and is working to reunite the two, sick of Ruhi (Nadya Hussain) and Sonia’s horrible attitudes towards his first family.

The dramatics with certain sequences can be frustrating, particularly the scene with Maqbool and Deeba. The two have their families after them, but when the banging starts at the door, Maqbool stands in front of the door as if he’s baracading it and tells Deeba to escape from the side door as the person on the other side of the door continues banging and Deeba wastes time arguing with him before running. Why wouldn’t both have simply run out that side door and made their way to safety? Now we are left to assume Maqbool has been killed and Deeba is now in the hospital after being hit by a car. Will Deeba’s appearance back in Zain’s life, along with Saru’s presence, create yet another misunderstanding between Zain and Aima? Of course, it shouldn’t, but knowing how Aima’s mind has been working throughout the course of the show, one can see this misunderstanding from a mile away.

Looking back, what real impact has the Sonia character had on the story at all? Has she played any relevant part? Even now, she does not serve as a wedge between Aima and Zain – Aima does a great job of that herself with her self-created misunderstandings that could be cleared with a simple conversation. While Hira Mani’s Aima isn’t the most likable female character, it’s still Affan Waheed’s Zain who is the most lovable character on the show. Zain is such a likable character and Affan Waheed is doing a wonderful job portraying this young musician. Overall, this episode did little to move the story forward other than showing Mohsin’s growing concern for his daughters. But now with Mohsin taking an active interest in Aima and Zain’s life, how will the story move forward?
