“Dil Na Umeed Toh Nahi” has been presented by the Kashf Foundation, a foundation which involves itself in meaningful stories that will benefit society in some way. “Dil Na Umeed Toh Nahi” deals with human trafficking and how deep it runs within South Asian society. Starring Yumna Zaidi, Wahaj Ali, Yasra Rizvi, Omair Rana, Nauman Ijaz, Samiya Mumtaz, Noor Ul Hassan and others, the story has been written by Amna Mufti and directed by Kashif Nisar. What’s great about this show is that it not only highlights a real issue, but also provides hope for a positive future.
In the last few episodes, it’s Naseem Zehra’s story that has grabbed eyeballs. Up until now, it’s been a mystery as to how Naseem would connect with the rest of the story overall, but now that it’s falling into place, all eyes are on Naseem (Fajjar Khan) in episode 22 and the characters connected to her story. Naseem is now staying with Zulfi (Omair Rana) and his mother and this is how she – and the audience – come to realize that Zulfi has brought 15 girls to the house before, always hoping the girl will fill the void his sister has left. Zulfi blames himself for being too harsh with his sister, forcing her to run away. Since then, he has been trying to rectify his mistake. Still, Zufli is working with the human trafficking industry, making it difficult for many to trust him – though he appears to be inherently good. Fajjer Khan’s performance as Naseem is applause-worthy as she’s really a natural performer.
Back at home, Najma (Samiya Mumtaz) has taken control, refusing to take Qazi’s (Noor Ul Hassan) nonsense anymore. She is unflinching when he heaps accusations on her for helping Naseem run away and she stands up for her daughters when Qazi suggests, on Naeem Sherwani’s (Kashif Mehmood) suggestion, that his second daughter step in to marry Sherwani. Najma, like the audience, is horrified that Qazi would even listen to this suggestion after the disgusting way Sherwani has treated (and threatened) Qazi. She stands up angrily and refuses to allow Sherwani to take any of her daughters. Initially, it wasn’t clear as to why Samiya Mumtaz signed this role as Najma didn’t have much to do – but in the last two episodes, Samiya Mumtaz has been an acting force, Najma finally coming into her own and leaving a lasting impact.
Jamshed (Wahaj Ali) finds himself struggling internally with his conscience. He confides in Sumbal (Yumna Zaidi) about how TM (Nauman Ijaz) is taking money from Zulfi, a man involved in human trafficking. Sumbal immediately puts two and two together and realizes it’s the same Zulfi, scolding Jamshed for trusting him. However, Jamshed assures Sumbal that Zulfi is trustworthy. TK also shows Savera (Yasra Rizvi) the ropes at the women’s shelter, hoping to settle her into a routine.

“Dil Na Umeed Toh Nahi” is one of those shows that leaves its audience hanging at the end of each episode, wishing for more. The story as always been stellar, but it has picked up greatly in the last few weeks. Each and every actor is putting forth their best, so it’s difficult to decide who to praise. In this episode, it’s an Omair Rana, Fajjer Khan, Noor Ul Hassan and Samiya Mumtaz show, these four actors giving their best. Now that “the boss” is angry with Zulfi, is Zulfi now in danger? Will the audience have to witness a tragedy? Or will Zulfi manage to escape the attack on his life by Ikram?
