Diwali is celebrated in full swing every year. While the Covid-19 pandemic has disrupted several plans, the festival of lights is right around the corner (November 14) and we are sure everyone will have at least one small-sized gathering to attend or host. The joyous occasion is something many look forward to and planning begins weeks in advance. Lights and oil lamps are lit in the streets and in houses, people visit relatives, indulge in scrumptious foods – both sweet and savoury – and wear their best outfits. Décor is a vital aspect of the occasion, including stunning floral arrangements and diyas among other things. Here are a few ideas for how to celebrate a lit Diwali:
- Diyas
It is said that the ‘first impression is the last impression’ and this holds true for grand festivities too. Diyas provide for the perfect entrance décor when it comes to adding life to a party. They don’t only look pretty but have a calming presence too, with the dim lighting setting the mood for any happy occasion. However, you will only be able to create an impact if you set up 10 to 15 diyas on either side of the walkway.
- DIY decoration kits
We know how tough planning can get in the midst of a pandemic. We all have been there! Whether we talk about birthdays, anniversaries or Diwali, they more or less require the same amount of organization. In order to keep yourself and your loved ones safe, a better option would be to avoid going to markets in search of items and order DIY decoration kits online. They are custom made, offer a variety of décor essentials and are readily available with home delivery options. These kits will make your party planning hassle free too.
- Floral hangings
You really don’t need an event manager for this one. Get strings of flowers, ranging from marigold to rose petals and motia, and allow them to hang in different corners of the house. You can decorate them on your windows, tie them along the staircase or simply hang them from your terrace. Not only will your place smell refreshing but the flowers will add the pop of colour and beauty you need!
- Tea lights
A cute way to assemble tea lights would be by hanging them from the ceiling in coloured transparent bottles, at different lengths. Think red, green and yellow when it comes to picking out the containers because bright colours define the occasion of Diwali. You can also up your ‘hostess with the mostest’ game by hanging colourful ribbons in between the tea lights-filled glass bottles.
- Dessert table Putting together a well-done dessert table is no easy feat but it isn’t a humongous task either. Place three to four vases on the table, with the biggest one in the centre, and fill them with flowers and petals. Use the candles from inside your home and set them around the vases. Dangling fairy lights would be an attractive addition as long as you find place to hang them behind the dessert table. We’d recommend you station it in front of a tree and hang the lights from there. Trust us, it will look amazing!
