Dunk Episode 28: The Court Case Begins As The Truth Is Revealed To Safeer

“Dunk” has finally begun to move forward with its storyline, though still moving at a snails pace. “Dunk” is a show that focuses on a false harassment case and how those involved are affected not just as individuals, but their families as well. Starring Bilal Abbas Haider, Sana Javed, Azekah Daniel, Fahad Sheikh, Yasra Rizvi, Laila Wasti, Shahood Alvi, Tara Mehmood and others, the story has been written by Mohsin Ali Shah and directed by Badar Mehmood.

The highlight of episode 28 is that one more individual has become aware of Amal’s (Sana Javed) lies – her own husband and biggest supporter, Safeer (Fahad Sheikh). Haider (Bilal Abbas Khan) has Safeer stand by the bedroom door as he declares defeat, apologizing to Amal for re-opening the case ,which opens the door for Amal to spout all sorts of truths about her crimes – and even some hurtful words about her marriage to Safeer. Safeer is hurt and visibly shocked, but remains quiet, listening to Amal rant against Haider with a slight hint of irritation, but still keeping his calm demeanor. Fahad Sheikh plays Safeer in an interesting way, almost too reserved. A husband would, at this point, have some kind of reaction, but Fahad is playing Safeer almost too “straight,” too “good” and non-reactive, which makes him a bit unbelievable.

The case moves forward in episode 28 with Amal’s lawyer ripping Haider and his allies to shreds. And yet, the viewer is left wondering how and why? Is it really so difficult to defend one’s reasons for marrying a single man? Is it really difficult to explain why Haider refused to marry Amal? All it requires is the use of proper words – but how else would the trial be dragged out for several more episodes?

What’s most irritating about “Dunk” is the snail pace at which it moves. Safeer hears Amal declare her actions from her own mouth to Haider. What more does he need to hear? But now, in the next episode, we will be treated to Safeer paying Saira (Yasra Rizvi) a visit to verify her feelings on Amal’s accusations towards Professor Humayun. This essentially means that this is another episode that will go by without a Safeer-Amal confrontation, unless the Safeer-Saira interaction takes place at the very beginning of the episode, leaving room for more action. “Dunk” remains that show which takes strides forward and then, somehow, still manages to remain stagnant. It’s a shame, because this is a drama with a powerhouse of talented actors all doing a brilliant job with their roles. It’s the dragged out writing and direction which is letting them down.
