Mini-series or “short dramas” have become a fashion of sorts recently. While it’s a welcome change from the 30-episode (or more) format that has come into play recently, at times these miniseries also leave audiences complaining about the short duration as well, leaving us longing for the comfortable 15-16 episode drama length. However, until then, we’ll continue to enjoy these short duration shows with stronger, tighter scripts. “Let’s Try Mohabbat” stars Mawra Hocane and Daniyal Zafar in lead roles, along with Gohar Rasheed, Nausheen Shah, Shahzad Nawaz, Tazeen Hussain, Aly Khan and Angeline Malik in a story written by Zeeshan Junaid and directed by Angeline Malik.
In episode 1, we are introduced to Zohan (Daniyal Zafar) and Fiza (Mawra Hocane), a young couple in love who struggle to find their way to the next step – marriage. Zohan and Fiza have been together for five years, but due to Zohan’s elder brother Azlan’s (Gohar Rasheed) failed relationship with Shehnaz (Nausheen Shah), his father does not approve of love marriages. Azlan, on his part, blames his father for the destruction of a relationship he truly valued, his entire personality turning hostile and rebel-like. Fiza and Zohan construct a plan where they will pretend their relationship is that of an arranged marriage – but will it work?
The first episode of “Let’s Talk Mohabbat” is enjoyable with a light-hearted, breezy feel while driving home the importance of independence and freedom to make life choices. Still, there are flaws here which first arrive in the form of a very lengthy beach date between Zohan and Fiza, long sequences focusing on Azlan reminiscing about the past and drawn out moments between Zohan’s parents (Shahzad Nawaz and Tazeen Hussain) arguing over who is responsible for Azlan’s behavior and upbringing. There are some melodramatic moments here, but it leaves the audiences rooting for the lead pair and, more than that, even rooting for Azlan to find his love again and put his father in his place, as he clearly seems like a meddlesome father who does not respect the choices of his children.
The cast of “Let’s Try Mohabbat” is ilikable and they all perform in a convincing manner. Mawra Hocane and Daniyal Zafar share sweet chemistry, though at present, they haven’t managed to “click” just yet, their personaliies almost having a hard time “gelling” with one another. However, this does tend to come with time -hopefully that time doesn’t arrive after the 6-episode show is over! So far, “Let’s Try Mohabbat” is a fun watch which will (hopefully) only improve with each episode.
