It’s the season for new dramas. While Green Entertainment has launched over 12 new shows, Hum TV, Har Pal Geo and ARY Digital are not to be left behind. “Sirf Tum” is a new launch from Har Pal Geo, a big-budget daily soap with a strong cast. Starring the current sensation post-Fairytale, Hamza Sohail, along with Anmol Baloch, Mohsin Abbas Haider and Hiba Aziz in lead roles, “Sirf Tum” also stars Sakina Khan, Fazila Qazi, Erum Akhtar, Ayesha Gul, Sabiha Hashmi, Zia Gurchani and Salma Asim in prominent roles. The story has been written by Seema Munaf and directed by Mazhar Moin.
With 8 episodes down, here’s a short summary of “Sirf Tum.” Abeer (Anmol Baloch) is brought to Pakistan by her mother to keep her safe from her stepfather’s roving eye. Of course, to stay in Pakistan, she must get married, so she’s given two options – her cousins Hamza (Mohsin Abbas Haider) and Hannan (Hamza Sohail). While Hamza is a womanizer, Hannan is a genuinely good guy, but is in love with his classmate Sarah (Hiba Aziz). While Abeer is set to marry Hamza, Hannan and Abeer wind up married in a twist of fate. At present, the story focuses on the two adjusting to their newly married life and, more importantly, building a relationship with one another.
This is a show that has been in the making for a while, so some performers feel as though they have taken a step back. Hamza Sohail is highly likable as Hannan, a down-to-earth, kind-hearted, sweet character. Essentially, Hannan is the perfect man and the sort of husband anyone would want. However, Hamza Sohail’s performance feels “new,” almost as if this were shot even before “Raqeeb Se” (and definitely before “Fairy Tale”). Anmol Baloch is always a likable performer and plays her role with that same natural flair, though her attempts at the American accent can be grating. Mohsin Abbas Haider gives a more flamboyant performance, and it comes across as “too much.” We are all aware of the sort of strong performances Mohsin Abbas Haider has given in the past and this does not suit him.
Still, regardless of the way the actors have been asked to enact their characters (in a Geo soap style), the actors manage to make their roles their own and from an audience viewpoint, “Sirf Tum” is a highly entertaining show. Of course, it’s a daily soap, which not only makes it hard to keep up with, but also means it will be action packed with many twists and turns to keep viewers hooked. The show already has several built-in villains to cause problems between Abeer and Hannan in the form of Hamza, Sarah (no matter how quietly she whispers, asking someone to leave their wife is villainous), Sakina Khan’s character and, of course, Fazila Qazi’s character as Hamza’s mother. At present, “Sirf Tum” is a fun watch with a nice bond being formed between Abeer and Hannan. But this quiet, peaceful storyline will be bombarded with villains in action soon enough!
