Thirteen universities in Pakistan have secured a place in the Best Global Universities Rankings 2021. The educational institutions were assessed based on their research performance and ratings by members of the academic community around the world and within Asia. The ranking includes 1500 institutions from across 86 countries. Different universities from all around the world are compared using 13 factors, with research and academic reputation being the main focus. Quaid-i-Azam University topped the list of the best universities in Pakistan, with the highest score of 53.3.
Agha Khan University came in second place with a score of 51.1 followed by COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI) and National University of Science and Technology, with a score of 47.9 and 36.2, respectively. University of Agriculture Faisalabad, University of Peshawar, University of Punjab, Government College University Faisalabad, Bahauddin Zakariya University, University of Karachi, Arid Agriculture University, University of Engineering and Technology Lahore and University of Engineering and Technology Taxila rounded off the top 13.

There are thirteen factors which are used to ascertain the rank of the institution. The highest weightage among these factors is assigned to Global research reputation at 12.5%, Regional Research reputation at 12.5%, number of publications at 10%, books at 2.5%, conferences at 2.5%, normalized citation impact at 10% and total citation at 7.5% among others. 59 Indian institutions were included in the ranking list. Indian Institute of Science bagged the top spot among Indian universities, with its global score of 49.7. University of Bologna in Italy secured first place in its country with a global score of 68.6. Educational institutions from the United States, Japan, South Korea, France, Netherlands and Germany among others were also included in the report for Best Global Universities Rankings 2021.
